Elementary-Age Cohorts

Grammar Stage Education

Continue with confidence.

1st-2nd Grade Cohort and 3rd-5th Grade Cohort

In grades 1-2, students are learning to read. In grades 3-5, they begin reading to learn. We witness a move from concrete thinking to deeper understanding, and from dependence toward growing responsibility. At Coram Deo, this growth happens in a Christ-centered environment where academic rigor and spiritual formation are woven together, not treated as separate goals.

Students are challenged to think critically, ask good questions, and pursue excellence while also learning integrity, perseverance, and responsibility. Because all subjects are taught through a biblical worldview, students begin to see God’s truth reflected in math, literature, science, history, and daily life. Faith becomes a lens for understanding the world, not just a class on the schedule.

By the end of fifth grade, Coram Deo students are not only academically prepared for the next stage of learning, but spiritually grounded and able to articulate what they believe, why it matters, and how they are called to live it out. They leave these years equipped to thrive, lead, and faithfully reflect Christ wherever they go.

Our grammar students benefit from the use of curriculum we believe parents would choose for themselves if they were able to hand-pick. Results-oriented, literature rich, and Christ-centered in our approach, we are looking to create students who are rock-solid in fundamentals in lower grades so that at upper levels of education we can engage in thought, analysis, and application. We utilize curriculum like IEW, Sonlight, and Singapore Math to ensure students have access to the best possible materials in every subject area.

While our grammar students benefit from Summit Ministries curriculum, they also have the blessing of witnessing older students lead Chapel. Coram Deo students worship together, engage in service together, and learn together. A Biblical worldview is evidenced throughout each of our subjects and reflected through carefully crafted statements of faith for each curriculum area.

Traditional academics take place in learning co-horts of grades 1-2 and 3-5 with differentiated math and foreign language for each student and combined cohort instruction in Bible, literature, history, and science on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Wednesdays, we have a specially crafted day of technology, co-curriculars like partner projects, building challenges, and volunteer opportunities to showcase students’ abilities outside the traditional curriculum and expand their capacity to learn. There is no homework assigned on Wednesdays so that students can attend church activities with their families.

Outside the Box Learning

In addition to our Wednesday enrichment, students benefit from project-based learning assignments, field trips to encourage hands-on learning, and the opportunity for larger trips and summer activities appropriate for each grade level. While these offerings vary by year to align with the curriculum, they may include:

  • Volunteer service opportunities
  • Local Field Trips including The Museum of the Bible
  • Mobile Library
  • Girls Retreat
  • Boys Campout
